Studio: Final Day

Today was the final day of tracking in the studio. We've 100% finished vocals, guitars, bass, drums, and all other kinds of stuff. Now, we're going to be mixing the album over the next month or so.

We're going to work hard to make sure the album is the best it can be, and we hope you all love it as much as us.

We're going to be booking shows soon so when the album is out, we can come hit up your hood and rock out.

Get ready!

Studio: Day 9

We finished about 75% of the vocals today. They're sounding great. We finished up vocals for our songs "Road of Life", "Empress Catherine the Great", and "Blood and Iron"... We already finished "Hero City", "The Bronze Horseman" and "Silver Age". We still need to finish "Honor Amongst Thieves" and "Church of the Savior on Spilled Blood".

It is all sounding awesome! we're really pumped so far. Only about one more day of tracking left, maybe two... we'll see. But it will all be done soon!

We'll also post up the track list for the album really soon. We're still trying to figure that one out.

Studio: Day 8

Today was a good day, as usual. We got all the guitars 99% finished... I say 99% because we'll probably remember something we missed at some point... and we finished a lot of the vocals.

We've got a few more days of actual tracking to do, and then we'll be mixing.

We've been sorta mixing the record as we go, so its taking more time, but it leaves less work until the end. We're doing things really different this time, we're not rushing, yet we've set a time limit, and we're doing our best to finish it on time. We do not really record more than one or two days a week, so it gives us time to clear our heads, and that is something that is really important. If you're in the studio every day the songs start all just losing their vibe, and we've done that in the past where we lived in a studio for 6 months... and doing things this way is just a better working environment for us. I really think it will show when people check out the record.

That is all for now! cheers

Studio: Day 7

Today we had another guest in the studio. My good friend Laura. We needed some piano parts on the new album, and she is amazing. I've worked with her before, producing a demo for her a few years back, so I knew we needed to get her on the album.

The song we had her play piano for, is the new song "Church of the Savior on Spilled Blood". Her part is the intro to the song, and its something i've had in my head the whole time, since i have written the song... it eventually drove me crazy, and I said "we need a piano intro to this song" so it came to be, and sounded perfect, just like I heard it in my head... so to say I'm happy would be an understatement.

While we had Laura in the studio, we decided to put her to work again, and we decided it would be awesome if she could lend some vocal work to the album. We didn't plan on it until she was there. She is a great vocalist, and Luca said "well i think female vocals would sound really good on the ending of 'Empress'"... he was referring to "Empress Catherine the Great", one of our new songs. So we decided to try it out, we got her in the vocal booth, and wow! it sounded amazing! we're just as happy with the vocals as the piano work.

Basically the album is coming together really nicely. So nicely that we are in fact going to be giving the album away for free... yes FREE. We are going to be putting the album online for download. Everyone will be able to download it, share it with everyone they know all for free. If people really like, they will be able to donate money with their credit cards via paypal. We're expecting to not make the money back we paid to record this, but at this point we do not care about money... if it was about money we would not have been doing this for 10 YEARS now! We really just feel this is the best NAR ever, and we really want to get our new work out there, to all of you, and in these hard times, not everyone has money to drop on a new album... So as a thank you to all the fans we've made and kept for the past 10 years, we want you all to have it and not have to spend your money. Just come out to a show when we're playing in your area, or even something as little as emailing us and letting us know what you think of the new album would be great.

More studio updates coming soon!

Studio: Day 6

Today we mostly finished up some guitar over dubs, and lots of vocals.

Vocals are sounding amazing. We're taking a different approach to everything this time around, and I think it is paying off.

Even guitar is being done with a whole new approach... and so far, being about 90% done, i'm loving it. The guitar and bass tones really work well together on this album, where as the last one, I felt they did not mesh together well.

We also had a guest in the studio today. Usually we've been working with Dave, and Mike in the studio, but today Davey came in. He just started working at the studio, and i've known Davey for awhile, so it was cool to have him come sit in on the project, and help out too. He recorded some of Luca's vocals today, mostly on the song "Silver Age".

We haven't really talked much about song names for the new album... so here is a run down of some of the songs.

"Blood and Iron" - I'd say 'Blood and Iron' is this album's 'I Hate'. It doesn't sound like 'I Hate', but it has that opening song aggression. It is really heavy and i'm thinking it is the perfect first song for people to listen to so they can get the album.

"The Bronze Horseman" - So far, this one is shaping up to be my favorite on the album. It is another song that is really heavy, full of aggression, but is also done in a different style than we usually do. It is for sure a step in a new direction of "heavy" for us. I think this song would be my favorite to make into a video... but it probably wouldn't get much play on TV.

"Hero City" - This song is sounding amazing. Guitar wise there is so many different things going on in this song, and its probably our most noticeably different song.

"Road of Life" - The solo on this song will make old mothers and unborn children cry.

The rest of the songs on the album are "Honor Amongst Thieves", "Church of the Savior on Spilled Blood", "Empress Catherine the Great", "Silver Age", and that is pretty much it for now. There might be more tracks on the album, none of which are named right now.

But there you go, a little update about what we've got going on for the new album.

More updates soon!

Studio: Day 5

Studio today was great. I got more guitar tracks finished today, and it is also my birthday! It was a great day to spend the day, doing what I love.

Now that all the main guitar tracks are done, there is nothing left to do guitar wise but some over dubs.

The album is sounding great, its a big step up from 'The Great Tribulation' I feel... especially guitar wise!

The over all sound of the guitars, and even the riffs, just over all way better. Vocally the album is better, drums are way better, and bass is probably the best we've ever had by far. A lot of people don't know, our last album was recorded in 2005/2006... so to us, that is super old and we've grown so much since then. We cannot wait to share it with you all.

More updates soon!

Studio: Day 4

Today we started vocals. We tried about 5 different microphones, and we finally picked one that sounded the best.

Luca did most of his screaming tracks today, and they're sounding great. Dave our producer is really easy to work with, and he's helping us capture what we really want. It is super easy to work with someone who gets us and our sound.

We're also recording video blogs of everything we do in the studio. When we're done recording, we'll be posting them online for you all to preview the new album, and to see what kind of stuff goes down in the studio. More updates soon.

Studio: Day 3

Today was a productive day. We got all the bass done for the record. We tried several ways of recording bass, and we feel we got really good bass sound. We used an ampeg head, and a line 6 head, we got 2 tones, both sounding really good, they'll be easy to work with in the mix.

Hearing the bass with the drums and guitar, and you can already hear how awesome the cd is sounding... we're really stoked on it.

We got more guitar done today as well. So far drums and bass are 100% done, guitars are about 75% done.

We're starting vocals next week, then we'll really hear it all coming together nicely. More updates soon.

Studio: Day 2

We got a lot done in the studio today. We did nothing but guitar today, and wow! the guitar is sounding amazing. I'm really happy with the sound. In the studio so far i've used my 5150 amp, and my Mesa 4x12 cab, loaded with 2 celestion black shadow speakers, and 2 V30's. I find the black shadow speakers have the same tone as the V30's only they're a little better with the low end response. Half the cab is closed, and half is open, so each half of my cab sounds really different... but that is enough gear nerd talk.

Well, after 8 hours of recording, i'm pleased with my sound so far, and my fingers are killing me... so more updates soon.
